Rental Cars
We can rent from Enterprise at the Mahon airport for 216 Euro for Sunday August 26 to Thursday August 30 if we use my work discount. I'm allowed to use it if I pay myself (and we won't be covered by work insurance). We then have a car to come and go as we please. If we go this route, we should select a hotel with free parking. Would save us the cost of a cab from the airport to the hotel, unless the hotel has a free shuttle.
There's an Auto Vallis in Punta Prima and Cala n Bosc, We could rent for a day for 135 Euro.
Gas is probably a wash no matter if we rent for a day or a week. We'll probably do about the same amount of driving.
There are buses to the major cities and resort towns, but not always easy. For example, if we are in Punta Prima, we have to take a bus to Mahon, then get on another bus to get to Cala n Porter, if we want to see that beach or go to the cave bar. Buses also don't seem to cover the north coast if we want to check out those beaches or light houses. Not to mention the wineries.

There doesn't appear to be Uber or Lyft. There's one taxi service and it's 20-50 Euro from the airport to town, depending on where you're going. This website makes it sound like they prefer to stay in certain regions of the island.
Some hotels advertise car hire service, whatever that means. Maybe a private driver not a taxi. Certainly not free.
Depends what we'd like to see. I'd like to see other parts of the island, beaches, lighthouses, wineries, etc. If we want to go into a city, a bus might make more sense because I'm not sure what parking is like. Maybe not so bad.
